David Middendorf – Head Judo Coach
I was born and raised in Massachusetts and lived by the beach for 48 years, and no, I don’t miss it. My family and I love Florida and we are here to stay. I started training in boxing for AAU and golden gloves for four years back in 1973. From there I went on to Karate, Uechi Ryu. I received my shodan and moved on to Jeet Kune Do and Kali. I really enjoyed kali but there are not too many practitioners in the sport and most people did not like getting hit with sticks! After a couple of local NHB fights with some of the local clubs where there were some of the original UFC fighters. I had learned that I didn’t know that much about ground fighting. So I looked around and found an instructor for judo , Mickey Takamori. After my first practice I was in love with Judo. From that day forward, I focused my training learning as much as I could. I wanted to be the best coach that I could be as I knew had started Judo late in life for a competitor. I have learned to coach from some of the best coaches this country has to offer. I learned from two Olympic medalists who eventually became the US Olympic team coaches. I have trained with many Olympic Judo players from around the world to build my knowledge and widen my eyes to the fascinating sport of Judo. I have been coaching for the past 11 years and have developed a system that will make any beginner an accomplished judoka (judo player) in the shortest amount of time possible, depending on their own personal goals. I am teaching at the South West Florida’s MMA club in Riverview! Find out more about the classes at http://www.ultimate-judo.co/ |
